FAILED UNIONISM AND STATE

It is obvious that, the standard of living among average Nigerians stands at zero level and corruption seem to be progressing every day. Poverty and crime rate are simultaneously at multiplier effect, the state of our education system is nothing to write home about; bedeviled with insuffiency in providing the basic necessities. The government cannot even secure the lives and properties of the citizens, needless to say that such government has failed.

The hope of liberation of the Nigerians falls on the youth and (we) must rise up to act, to speak and reject all forms of incompetency in governances. Nowadays, the ideology of some youth is just to watch movies, football and other fantasy comparing those days when the youth salvage each other and speak with one voice. National Association of Nigerians student (NANS) was very powerful then. NANS of today is a medium of robbery and thuggery and all vices. Let me gist a short story of my trip to Kebbi state for NANS convention under the platform of  a Comrade, a journey of 10 hours with fellow comrades, Danja really did his homework excellently by visiting almost 15 universities that covered 10 state under zone ‘A’. Even though he loosed the ballot.

As we arrived Kebbi State, we were honored by the host university, the next day was accreditation of senators followed by ‘side talks. Many students from different universities divided themselves into groups. My first experience in NANS convention observed that 95% of the NANS  leadership is led by ‘stakeholders who decided on whom to be and whom not to be and those stakeholders are not students, although university drop out they may be but they continue to remain in NANS for donkey years, with what they called ‘interest’ they would stand for you, only if you would dance on their tune, by hidden under the  umbrella of student and be collecting money from some politicians to their pockets.

The unscrupulous attitude of those people that called themselves student on convention ground is totally abuse of law and order. They use thugs with machetes, knives, big sticks to named but few, the worst part is that no any paramilitary agency, no any representatives of federal government neither ministry of education. Hypocrisy is the order of the day in NANS politics. Hmm, student are yearning for change, in advocate of change and looking forward for egalitarian society, but they are not helping matters with such deviance attitude. How and when can Nigeria be free from all those deviances? Failed state and failed unionism.

There is a great need for NANS to be truly of student by student and for students; re-structure and repackage the system of leadership, also urge federal government to monitor and supervise NANS executives before they would be given offices, by then we say ‘Aluta continue, victory ascerta’
